My upbringing in the casino was poker, specifically Texas Hold ‘Em. I’ve played the game for over two decades. A finance, economics, and strategy guy by trait, casino card games were right up my alley. About a decade ago, I was looking to get more excitement and jumped in the fast-paced game of Blackjack. I read books, watched videos, learned basic strategy, and understand why basic strategy is what it is.

I sit down at a Blackjack table any chance I get. Over the last seven years, I’ve taken five to ten trips annually to Vegas, each time playing Blackjack with varying results. The more I’ve played, the more my game has developed. About a year ago, I reflected back on all my trips to Vegas, some with multi-thousand dollar wins and some with the opposite.

I spent a lot of time thinking about how to maximize my wins and minimize my losses. I thought about what I have control over in the game and what I don’t have control over. I can’t control how someone else at the table plays, how the cards come out, or how the dealer deals. What I can control is my action on the hand and my bet. I realized I was great at one side of what I could control – my action (aka basic strategy), but I was flying blind on the other side – my bet.

I spend some time reading, reflecting, and came up with a betting strategy. I went to Vegas and won: ~$2,000. I went back to Vegas and won: ~$5,000. I went back to Vegas again and won: ~$10,000. Since implementing my betting strategy, making small tweaks along the way, I have won over $25,000!

Mind you, not every table was profitable nor every session, but I have stuck with a set of guidelines & betting sequences that have helped me to accomplish my goal: maximize my wins and minimize my losses.
